As you play the game, you will encounter moments when the story is paused from progressing. If the book is closed and you see the 
displayed, this any remaining chapters requires the child development to reach a certain point, an item needs to be acquired, or a specific non-chapter event needs to be completed first. This support article contains information that may be considered spoilers for those who have not been playing long. Read at your own discretion.
General tips to discovering chapters
Without getting into too many details about specific chapters, here are general tips you can do to discover new chapters.
- Discover items to purchase in the village shop, typically in the hardware section (yellow tab) of the shop.
- Encourage the child to participate in “School Challenges.” You will be able to starting doing school challenges are when you complete the chapter titled, .
- Order pizza frequently and watch as your child reacts to each time the pizza arrives.
- Watch for moments when your child discovers something fascinating especially around specific animals.
- Encourage hobbies as they come up, if you start a hobby you should try to practice it frequently.
- Overall, encouraging the child to discover and take risks is often more.
Chapters that are not directly accessible through gameplay will not count toward determining your chapter availability. This includes:
- Chapters that are no longer accessible due to decisions players made in the game.
- Chapters that are only available in specific seasons of the game.
- Chapters that are only available through a premium story pack in the premium store.
If any of these types of chapters are the only ones remaining to be played, you will see the 
icon displayed instead of the .
Using the Chapter Tracker
If you need a clue to discovering your next chapter, you should review the Chapter Tracker in your Filofax. You can find the Chapter Tracker by going to the achievements tab (the red tab with the star icon) and then clicking the sub-tab with the book icon. This will list out chapters you have completed, chapters you can discover, and some chapters that are hidden until you can discover them. Icons next to the chapters gives hints to the conditions you should look for when discovering a chapter.
Specific Chapter Guidance
Below are specific tips to unlocking specific chapters that do not unlock on their own. Note for all other chapters, you need to complete the chapters, “Moving In” and “The First School Week” which are the first two chapters of the game. Chapters not listed here are ones you may need to complete one of these chapters below, or just wait for your next available chapter charge to be ready.
- The Nice Backpack – Wait for moments about the child talking about wanting to get a backpack. Then purchase the nice backpack (the one that costs 500 coins). This will queue the chapter into your chapter pool, but it may take several in-game weeks for this chapter to start.
- A Cat in the Garden – Purchase the materials in the store to construct a birdhouse, then craft the birdhouse in the garden shed and then use the decoration tool to place the birdhouse in the garden. You then may need to wait several in-game weeks for this chapter to start.
- The Goldfish – Wait for opportunities for the child to talk about a classmate’s goldfish and encourage their fascination of having a goldfish for a pet. After several conversations, the child will ask you if they can get a goldfish. Once this occurs you can purchase the goldfish in the village shop. This will queue the chapter into your chapter pool, but it may take several in-game weeks for this chapter to start.
- ??????? (sequel chapter to The Goldfish) – Continue to take care of the goldfish. Depending how well you take care of the goldfish, this chapter may take several weeks or even seasons to unlock.
- The Way of Nature – The child will talk about the hedgehog multiple times, encourage their fascination with the hedgehog and make sure you don’t encourage them to scare the hedgehog away (if you do the chapter will be disqualified from being discovered). When the opportunities arrives give permission for the child to feed the hedgehog and continue to do this repeatedly. Eventually this should unlock this chapter.
- A Musician is Born – Build on the child’s confidence through school challenges or by ordering pizza.
- ??? ??????? (sequel chapter to A Musician is Born) – This chapter will unlock if you purchase the guitar from the shop and continue to encourage the child’s hobby playing guitar. Note this chapter may no longer be available to complete if you complete both chapters related to the handball.
- A New Hobby – Build on the child’s confidence through school challenges or by ordering pizza.
- ??? ????? ????? (sequel chapter to A New Hobby) – This chapter will unlock if you purchase the handball from the shop and continue to encourage the child’s hobby playing handball. Note this chapter may no longer be available to complete if you complete both chapters related to the guitar.
- All About Perspective – You need to unlock the Social Fear Awareness badge in the filofax. This can be done by completing school challenges.
- Lucky Day – You need to unlock the Social Fear Awareness badge in the filofax. This can be done by completing school challenges.
- Someone to Sit With – You need to complete the Tired Security Guard Chapter and continue to participate in school challenges. Note, how the child reports back from school challenges will determine how this chapter is discovered so carefully think about your answers to the child as it will shape the story.
- The World At Night – Build on the child’s confidence through school challenges or by ordering pizza.
- Friends Chapter – The child must have a friend that you’ve allowed your child to play with.
- Fall Leaves – This chapter requires you to be in the autumn season of the game. (This chapter will not count toward determining if you are missing chapters)
- Catch Me In The Orchard – This chapter requires you to be in the autumn season of the game and your child must have made a friend. (This chapter will not count toward determining if you are missing chapters)
- The Investigator – Purchase the Recorder Reporter Premium Story Pack. (This chapter will not count toward determining if you are missing chapters)
- The Vast Infinite – Purchase the The Mountain Premium Story Pack. (This chapter will not count toward determining if you are missing chapters)
